Fortrose Cathedral
Fortrose Cathedral, a historical gem nestled in the heart of the Scottish Highlands, stands as a testament to the region's rich religious and architectural heritage. Dating back to the 13th century, this medieval cathedral exudes an aura of timeless grandeur. Its intricate stonework, a remarkable blend of Gothic and Romanesque styles, showcases the skilled craftsmanship of its creators. The cathedral's imposing structure, characterized by soaring arches and meticulously carved details, is a testament to the devotion and skill of the craftsmen who meticulously constructed it. Over the centuries, Fortrose Cathedral has witnessed the ebb and flow of history, surviving through periods of turmoil and tranquillity alike. Its serene surroundings, with the tranquil waters of the Moray Firth nearby, offer visitors a chance to reflect on the past while marvelling at the architectural marvel before them. As a captivating relic of the past, Fortrose Cathedral continues to stand as a living link to the region's medieval roots, inviting all who visit to explore its history and immerse themselves in its timeless beauty.
During the 2020 the grass around the cathedral, which is normal well-manicured was let to grow wild and this inspired me to paint the building surrounded by wildflowers. Cathedral square is also the location of the annual St. Boniface Fair, a recreate of an 18th century Burgh Fair.
